Formal Gardens & Topiary

on .

Topiary has always been a part of gardens that I remember with interest from an early age, as such I have always had a soft spot for the formal garden that includes lots of topiary. Whether used as specimens placed on the lawn or included in the border the architectural and statuesque qualities of topiary make it so appealing. I really like to see a strong contrast between clipped forms and the abundant perrennial border it is such a classic feel. After quite a resurgence of interest at Chelsea this year, with almost every garden featuring some form of topiary, it seems to have been given a new lease of life again and now it seems everyone is wanting a bit some topiary included in their garden. Topiary is not really a new idea , it's been around for hundreds of years with the Romans featuring it heavilly in their gardens in Britain as well as in Europe and features in some of the oldest gardens in Italy and France. I like to use topiary both traditionally and also with a slightly more contemporary twist - so if a formal garden is something you have always fancied, let me design you a traditional or modern formal garden filled with clipped forms and the odd piece of topiary.
